Our Story
Berrings Pre-School Play Group first opened its doors in 1991. Since then it has guided almost 400 children as they took their first steps into the world of learning and formal education. Mighty oaks from little acorns grow and Berrings Pre-School is proud to count pilots, teachers, nurses, Gardaí, scientists, doctors, architects and many more among its growing alumni.
Our School
At Berring Pre-School the child takes priority. Emphasis is placed on learning by doing, group activities and encouraging the natural curiosity of young minds. The child led curriculum makes use of both indoor and outdoor learning environments and incorporates;
- Learning the essentials; alphabet and writing skills, numbers and counting
- Developing the imagination and creative skills through a wide range of arts and crafts projects
- Exploring the natural world through planting and composting activities
- Acquiring safety skills through activities based around road safety and practicing the safe cross code
- Celebrating; Birthdays, Halloween, Christmas, Easter, Mother's and Father's Day and much much more!
- Evolving social skills and making friends in a fun and engaging learning environment
- Building confidence through an end of year Sports Day, Teddy Bears Picnic and Graduation
Sheila
As founding director of Berrings Pre-School Play Group Sheila has over 27 years of childcare and Pre-School teaching experience. Sheila holds a QQI award L6 qualification (childcare) and is a qualified Speech and Drama teacher (ALCM) and a gold medalist in Speech. Certificates include 1st Aid, Special Needs, Kids Active and Child Protection. Sheila constantly engages in CPD, programmes include Diversity, Equality and Inclusion and is currently participating in a HSE health promotion programme for Pre-School Services.
Sheila is an enthusiastic volunteer for many community based projects such as Berrings Tidy Towns (established 2009) where she served as secretary for 2 years. She is also a committee member of the Iniscarra Show and is responsible for all indoor activities including children's arts and crafts. Sheila also served on the Board of Management of Berrings National School for 10 years.
